Durham, N.C. (AP) – Lexie Brown scored 30 points, and No. 20 Duke upset No. 9 Florida State 79-66 on Monday night.
Rebecca Greenwell added 22 points with three of her six 3-pointers coming during the decisive run, and Leaonna Odom had 15 points to help the Blue Devils (21-7, 10-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) earn their most significant victory — at least, by the rankings — of the season.
Nicki Ekhomu had 15 points and AJ Alix had 13 points for the Seminoles (22-5, 10-4), but top scorer Shakayla Thomas had seven — nearly 11 below her average — on 2-of-10 shooting.
Still, Florida State held Duke scoreless for 3 1/2 minutes in the fourth quarter and Imani Wright pulled the Seminoles to 62-58 after hitting three free throws with 5:51 left.
Greenwell hit a 3 with about 5 minutes remaining to start the 13-4 run that essentially put the game away. She hit another one a minute later, and capped the burst with a 3 that pushed the lead to 75-62 with about 2 minutes left.
POST-GAME NOTES:
• At halftime, FSU was unveiled as a No. 9 overall seed in the latest NCAA Top 16 Tournament projections.
• Senior center Chatrice White became the eighth Seminole to collect 90 blocked shots in her career, only counting FSU totals.
• Monday night was FSU’s first loss when holding an opponent to under 40 percent from the field. FSU entered 15-0 in the given situation. Duke shot just 39 percent.
• Duke snapped a three-game losing streak to Florida State, defeating the Seminoles for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
• Redshirt senior point guard AJ Alix led the Seminoles with three 3-point field goals.
• Sophomore Nicki Ekhomu led FSU for the second time this season in scoring with 15 points while adding nine rebounds. It was Ekhomu’s career high for points in an ACC road game.
• Redshirt senior guard Imani Wright extended her league-leading 3-point field goal total to 92.
• FSU out-scored Duke off the bench 22-8.
• The Seminoles finish the season with consecutive home games on Thursday vs. Boston College (7 p.m.) and Sunday vs. Georgia Tech (1 p.m.). Two wins would assure the Seminoles of a fourth-straight double-bye in the ACC Tournament.
• FSU is now 6-2 against North Carolina ‘Blue Bloods’ Duke (3-1) and UNC (3-1) since the 2014-15 season.
