TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 19 Florida State (10-3) overcame an early deficit to secure its 14th straight victory over USF (6-6-1) as the Seminoles defeated the Bulls 7-3 Wednesday afternoon on Mike Martin Field at Dick Howser Stadium.

“After last night’s ball game you want to be sure that nobody is thinking that this one is going to be easy,” Florida State head coach Mike Martin said. “First part of the ball game we hit some balls hard, right at them but there were no signs of concern. Our guys are understanding that it’s a 27-out ball game and for them to come back and play with that poise was very comforting to our coaching staff.”

An impressive relief outing from Alec Byrd allowed the Seminoles to slowly chip away at USF’s lead before taking the lead for good with a four-run sixth inning. The sophomore southpaw entered the game in relief of FSU starter Jim Voyles with the bases loaded and one out in the second inning. He finished the outing working a career-high 5.2 scoreless innings allowing three hits and a walk while striking out six

Florida State continues its current 14-game home stand this weekend when the Seminoles open ACC play against Boston College.
