Florida A&M Women's Basketball Notches First Round Win In MEAC Tournament

NORFOLK, Va. (Mar. 8) - Khadejra Young scored 20 points Tuesday to lead the Florida A&M Women's Basketball team to a 79-74 win over Delaware State in the first round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament. at the Scope. 
 
The Lady Rattlers (16-14), the 7 Number seed advance to Wednesday's quarterfinals where they will face North Carolina A&T, the Number 2 seed at 2 pm.
 
Tuesday's game appeared as though it would be a rout when Florida A&M came out of the blocks with a 8-0 start and led 22-10 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Hornets (9-21), the Number 10 , woke up on their doldrums on a 22-14 second quarter push that got them to within 36-32 at the intermission.
 
Delaware State scrapped its way back into the game in the third period on the scoring of Aliah Stinnett and Najai Pollard, using a 9-5 spurt to tie the game at 41 with 6:22 left in the third period.
 
London Holland responded with a three-point basket 18 seconds later that gave FAMU the lead for good. The Rattlers would go on to score 14 more points to take a 55-49 lead at the end of three. The lead expanded to double digits as the Lady Rattlers had five different players take turns scoring in the final stanza.
 
In addition to Young’s 20 points, Kenya Dixon had 18, Holland 13 and Dawn King 12. Delaware State got a game-high 21 points from Najai Pollard to go along with her 14 rebounds and 12 from Nikkel Blackburn.
