Florida A&M Ousted By Bethune-Cookman In MEAC Semifinal

NORFOLK, Va. (Mar. 10) – The FAMU Women’s Basketball team saw its’ 2016-17 season come to a close here Friday afternoon, as they were ousted by top-seeded Bethune-Cookman, 59-42 at The Scope.
 
Junior Florence Ouattara led FAMU (13-19) with 11 points, followed by senior Alicia McCray with nine points and five rebounds. Junior Shakerrya Morrison added eight points and eight rebounds Friday.
 
FAMU jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first quarter, but the Wildcats rallied to take a 15-14 edge after one quarter.
 
The Rattlers stayed close, cutting the Wildcat lead to 23-22 with under 10 seconds left when Victoria Nguyen sank a pair of foul shots, but B-CU got to the line with two seconds left in the half, making both frebbies to take a 25-22 lead into the lockeroom.
 
Bethune-Cookman (21-9), which had taken both regular season games from FAMU by double digit margins, began to take control of the game in the third period, outpacing the Rattlers, 16-11 on the scoreboard to build a 41-33 lead.
The Wildcats doubled up FAMU, 18-9 in the scoring column in the fourth period to close out the game.
 
Kendra Cooper led B-CU with 12 points and five rebounds, followed by Emily Williams with 11 points and seven boards.
 
Bethune-Cookman will play the winner of the North Carolina A&T-Hampton game for the MEAC Tournament title on Saturday at at 3:00 p.m. ‘
