Game 1: Sanford, Fl. (April 14th, 2018) –After taking two of three from Bethune-Cookman in Tallahassee back in March, Florida A&M hit the road this weekend to take on the Wildcats for another three-game set, starting with a 12:00 PM Saturday double header.

Game one started with four scoreless innings of play, but the Rattlers got on the board in the fifth inning. Dallas Oliver drove in the first run of the game with a single to left field that scored Bret MaxwellJacky Miles followed with a base hit through the right side to drive in Octavien Moyer and Oliver. Brian Davis then doubled down the left field line to score Miles, giving FAMU a 4-0 lead after four and a half innings.

Bethune-Cookman answered in the bottom of the fifth. Chase Debonis drove in Jameel Edney and Jordan Stacy with a three-run homerun to left field, making it a 4-3 game after five innings of play.

The Rattlers extended the lead in the sixth. Bret Maxwell advanced from second to third on an infield hit by Octavien Moyer and then scored on a fielding error by the first baseman to make it a 5-3 game going into the bottom of the sixth.

FAMU added to their lead again in the top of the eighth. Bret Maxwell drove inJohn Capra with a sacrifice fly to right field. Octavien Moyer then drove in Kaycee Reesewith a two-run homerun to left center, making the Rattlers’ lead 8-3 heading to the bottom half.

Dallas Oliver was hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the ninth, and later scored on a single to right field by Brian Davis to extend the Florida A&M lead to 9-3.

Bethune-Cookman responded with a two-run homerun to left center by Jameel Edney, but that would be all for the Wildcats, as Florida A&M held on to win game one by a final score of 9-5.

FAMU starting pitcher Thomas Nicoll earned his second win of the season, going 7 strong innings, allowing only three runs while striking out seven. Jamie Grant tossed the last two innings of the game.

Tyler Norris was handed the loss for the Wildcats, allowing five runs (none earned) through 7 innings of work. Brady Norris entered the game in the eighth, allowing four earned runs through 2 innings.

Game 2: Sanford, Fl. (April 14th, 2018) – Coming off a big win in game one, the Rattlers looked to sweep the Saturday double header in game two.

Florida A&M picked up where they left off, scoring a run in the first inning thanks to a solo homer to left field by Jacky Miles, giving the Rattlers an early 1-0 lead.

Bethune-Cookman answered with a solo homerun by Nate Sterijevski, tying the game at one run after an inning of play.

Jacky Miles then led off the top of the fourth with his second homerun of the day, this one over the scoreboard in left center field, giving FAMU a 2-1 lead after three and a half innings of play.

BCU answered again in the bottom of the fourth. Jordan Stacy drove in Nate Sterijevski from third base with a single up the middle, and Jameel Edney then hit a two-run homerun to left field. Chase DeBonis later hit a single to left center, driving in Giovany Lorenzo to give the Wildcats a 5-2 lead after four innings.

BCU would hold this lead and go on to win game two by a final score of 5-2. Anthony Maldonado got the win after throwing 5.1 innings, allowing two earned runs. Ivan Coutinho earned the save, throwing 1.2 scoreless innings.

Ryan Anderson suffered the loss for the Rattlers, allowing five earned runs through 3.2 innings of work. Deven Shulstad finished the fourth inning and threw a scoreless fifth, and Josh Wilson added a scoreless sixth inning.

After splitting the double header, FAMU is now 15-21 on the season and 8-5 in MEAC play. The Rattlers will look to take the series tomorrow, Sunday, April 15th, at 11:00 AM back at Historic Sanford Memorial Stadium.
