Tallahassee, Fla (WTXL) - Many believe crimes are becoming more violent every day, this begs the question for some of where exactly does our area rank in violent crimes reported.   

Florida Department of Law Enforcement offers a crime index on their website for online users access. The website gives crime statistics for the entire state of Florida. The crime index allows you to access crime reports by year, county, and category of crime.

For violent crimes in the year 2012, Leon County had the highest rate of violent crimes with 647.2 being reported per 100,000 people. Taylor County was close behind with a rate of 672.5 violent crimes per 100,000 people. Gadsden county came in next with the rate of 513.6, followed by Wakulla County with 299 and Jefferson County with 88.

Tallahassee residents are trying to do their part in combating violent crimes in our area. Locals are posting to Facebook with the initiative to stop the violence. Facebook users can post anything from crime updates to other crime-related information on the Facebook page "Tallahassee - Stop the Violence."
