VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - A Valdosta woman died when her car overturned and struck a tree Thursday evening, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Karen Lynne Root, 62, was traveling south on Rocky Ford Road about 3:25 p.m. Thursday when her car traveled off the west shoulder of the roadway and entered the west ditch. Overturning, the car hit a tree.

Root was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lowndes County coroner.

Troopers suspect alcohol to be a contributing factor in the collision and are awaiting a toxicology report, a GSP news release said, and also suspect distraction by an electronic cellular device.
