Valdosta police investigating possible murder on Walnut Street

VALDOSTA, Ga. --  Valdosta police are investigating after a man was found dead at an abandoned house.

The investigation began around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13. Officers were called to the vacant house, which is located in the 200 block of Walnut Street, because a prowler may have been in the area.

When officers arrived, they looked around and found Robert Pett, a 22-year-old man, dead at the scene. Police sealed off the area and began their investigation.

Valdosta Police Department detectives and criminalist from the Valdosta Lowndes Regional Crime Laboratory gathered evidence and information from the location.

Details about Pett's injuries are not being discussed at this time due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigations is performing an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
