LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) -- A South Georgia woman says she witnessed her husband's murder.

David Harrelson is accused of shooting Josh Commander in the chest. Lowndes County deputies say it happened at Harrelson's home on Union Road in Hahira.

Amy Commander says her husband Josh was the best husband a woman could ever ask for.

“He was great to me. He was always there for me. He woke me up every morning by saying I love you Ms. Commander,” she said.

Amy Commander says it all started when she and her husband asked their neighbor David Harrelson to stop blaring an air horn. She says Harrelson refused to stop.

“I see Josh try to grab the gun from him,” she said.

Commander said she never could have prepared for what happened next. She said her husband saved her and her son's life.

“I saw Josh just freeze," she said. "He looks down and I see him turn and I’m standing right there I didn't even know my son was behind me at this point."

That's when Amy Commander said her husband stepped in front of the gun.

“I see Josh turn and he gives me this blank stare and he just steps over and I hear the gun and I didn't even know Jacob was standing behind me,” she said.

Commander says she immediately ran over to her husband and started doing CPR, asking everyone to call for help. Deputies say Josh Commander was immediately taken to the hospital where he later died.

Harrelson was taken into custody.

“When they put him in cuffs, he was smiling and laughing all the way to the police car,” said Commander.

Saturday, family and friends remember Josh Commander, including his stepson.

“I just love him so much. He did not deserve to die,” said stepson Jacob Dunbar.

The family said he may be gone but they will cherish his memory forever.

David Harrelson is charged with murder and is in the Lowndes County Jail.
