UPDATE (August 7, 2014 - 10:00 A.M.)

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTX) -- Martha White made her first court appearance Thursday. She is continuing to be held in the Leon County Jail without bond.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- A Leon County grandmother was under medical evaluation overnight after deputies say she stabbed her 6-year-old grandson to death.

Deputies say Martha White, 63, stabbed 6-year-old Mason Rhinehart, multiple times in his chest. It happened late Tuesday morning at a home at 7712 Bass Ridge Trail in the Killearn Lakes Plantation. Mason was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

A motive is still unclear, however deputies say White was alone with Rhinehart at the time of the attack.

White was quickly named a suspect in the case. Deputies found her in her car near the end of Valley Creek Drive where she was then taken to an area hospital for medical evaluation. After an overnight hospital stay, White was charged with premeditated murder in the death of her grandson

Chris Petley with Leon County Schools confirms Rhinehart was a student at Killearn Lakes Elementary School.

An online fund has since been set up by close family friends in an effort to support the family and cover costs for services and burial.
