TAYLOR COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The U.S. Coast Guard says that its suspending its search for a diver who went missing into the Gulf of Mexico this weekend.

They said that they ceased the search Sunday night after 9 p.m.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the air and sea search covered an 800 square nautical miles area where 48-year-old William 'Glen' Peel from Shellpoint was last known to be. He was last seen in the Gulf of Mexico which is about 20 nautical miles south of Cabbage Creek in Taylor County.

Reef divers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission recovered two dive bands but no sign of Peel.

He was last seen Saturday around noon when he went into the water and never came back up.

There's still no word yet on what caused the diver to go missing.
