Two Local Teachers Receive Governor's Shine Awards

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Governor Rick Scott gives two local teachers Shine Awards this week.

He also proclaimed May 4 through 8 as Florida Teacher Appreciation Week.

The Shine Award recognizes educators who are making significant contributions to the state's classrooms.

Wallace Knight from the Apalachee Tapestry Magnet School of the Arts was given the award for his work as an instructional leader and STEM coordinator.

Thomas Speight, a history teacher at Jefferson County Middle/High school also received the award.

He was selected for his various teaching techniques, and for tutoring students before school, during lunch and after school.

Eight teachers were chosen in total.
