TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee community and first responders gathered for the last "Operation Safe Neighborhoods" event of the summer.

Throughout the summer, Tallahassee Police and the Tallahassee Firefighters have been leading people within their neighborhoods to go door to door in an effort to stop violent crimes.

Thursday night everyone gathered at the Tallahassee Regional Animal Hospital to start their walk throughout the Eastgate neighborhood.

Organizers say this program has been successful.

"It's a good time for neighbors to get to know neighboors and for the neighbors to get to know the police," said Officer Rachelle Denmark, a TPD spokesperson. "We all live here together, this is a big team effort in our community. It takes everyone working together to make it and keep i a safe place."

Tallahassee Police say they will continue working throughout the year to host programs to build relationships with the community they serve.
