TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- The Tallahassee community is mourning the loss of a teacher.

Erika Marie Kubik, 33, died in a car accident on Friday.

She was a third grade teacher at Florida State University Schools in Tallahassee.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, Kubik was traveling on Florida's Turnpike, when her car traveled into the median for an unknown reason and hit a guardrail.

Kubrik's mother, Pat Gleason, works as the Special Counsel for Open Government.

On Sunday, the Attorney General Pam Bondi released this statement: "We are devastated by the loss of Pat Gleason's daughter Erika, who was killed in a car accident Friday night on her way to meet family in Orlando. Pat is a beloved member of our team and a champion of Florida's Sunshine law. Her loss is heartbreaking, and we will continue to keep Pat and her family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time of mourning."
