Tallahassee police officer hurt during overnight shooting

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Tallahassee Police are searching for two suspects following reports of shots fired late Sunday night.

Police say they were called to Preservation Road and Ronds Pointe Drive at 11:51 p.m. Sunday night. This is near Tallahassee's Summerbrooke neighborhood.

UPDATE AT 2:22 AM:

According to Tallahassee Police, off-duty officers observed a vehicle burglary in progress near the location and attempted to make contact with the suspects.

Upon doing so, the suspect vehicle tried to drive off and hit one of the off-duty officers. As a result, off-duty officers fired at the suspect vehicle, striking it as it drove away.

The suspect vehicle was later located at the Shell Gas Station, 1500 Bannerman Road, unoccupied.

The one off-duty officer was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. At this time it is unknown if the suspect(s) were injured. 

Witnesses say the scene was active for over an hour. 

WTXL has confirmed that police are in full SWAT gear with K-9 units.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office is assisting with the search.

There have been no arrests. Right now, TPD's Violent Crimes Unit is investigating. They are asking anyone with information about this case to please call them at (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
