TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - An 8th grade Tallahassee student is taking the issue of climate change into her own hands and spent the day raising awareness outside the Florida Capitol.

Charlotte Stuart-Tilley said there has been a lack of action to reverse the effects of climate change, that's why she's fighting for change.

She was inspired to do this after a 15-year-old Swedish environmentalist gained international attention protesting in September.

Stuart-Tilley said she's spreading a simple message, take care of our planet.

"My generation is going to see all of the problems that your generation are creating and that we're doing right now and we're not doing anything about it," said Stuart-Tilley. "We're hoping that the U.S.A. gets back into the Paris Agreement and statewide, we are hoping that Florida continues to work hard on protecting it's environment."

She said she hopes to convince more adults to take action and vote on legislature that helps the planet.

Leon County Schools said missing class to participate in Friday's strike is not an excused absence.
