TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It was all about food, fellowship and engagement at the Gillum home Sunday evening.

Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum and his family hosted their very own Longest Table event.

WTXL's Jarell Baker shows us how a family dinner aims to bridge gaps in the community.

Gillum and family opened their home and served dinner for residents of Tallahassee all in an effort to bring the community together at the Longest Table.

"I think the last one had north of 12,000 members of our community how participated this time we wanted to make it more intimate," Gillum said. "We thought it would be real opportune to bring high school college students to particpate in these meals and engage in community dialog and conversation."

Kion Glover, a FAMU student, said: "It's been a really good experience being here conversation has been great food has been awesome so im really thankful to be here."

Normally during a dinner people are focused on eating.

But at this dinner Gillum and his guests focused on building bridges and bringing the community together.

Ron Block, a Tallahassee Resident, said: "We have a lot of a wide range of people here Tallahassee. Different classes different ethnicities and this is a chance to bring people together from different backgrounds we otherwise would not meet."
