TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee man is out on bond after he  shot and injured a dog Monday night.

Darrel Wyche Jr., 23, was booked into jail on Monday.

According to an arrest documents, police were called to North Ridge Road Monday night for a weapons call. The caller advised that someone had just shot a dog and said the suspect was last seen on walking away on Ridge Road.

When officers responded to the area, they quickly found the suspect, later identified as Wyche. Documents say Wyche walking westbound toward Springhill Road with his hands in a jacket pocket. As the officer drove near, Wyche walked over to some nearby brush.

The officer then got out of his patrol vehicle and pointed his firearm at Wyche, demanding that he put his hands up.

Wyche complied and was detained. Because officers were called about a weapon, documents say they pat Wyche down but didn't find a gun on him. They later found the gun hidden in the brush where Wyche was seen walking over to earlier.

When officers spoke to the dog's owner, he said that his dog was outside using the bathroom when he heard two gunshots and saw his dog bleeding and limping.

The owner also saw Wyche in the road, wearing an orange jacket. When the owner asked Wyche if he shot the dog, Wyche responded that he did, according to a probable cause affidavit. After they spoke, the owner said Wyche walked northbound on Ridge Road.

Police say the dog is expected to survive.

Based on the evidence, officers arrested Wyche and put him in a patrol vehicle. While in the back of the patrol vehicle, investigators wrote that he kicked the doors and windows. He also cursed at officers calling them vulgar names.

Before being transported to jail, Wyche was searched again and continued to resist arrest. He has been charged with animal cruelty, discharging a firearm in public, possession of a firearm by a felon, tampering with evidence, and resisting an officer.

On Tuesday, Wyche was freed from the Leon County Detention Center on an $18,000 bond.
