TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Apalachee Regional Park runners competed in the U.S.A. Track & Field Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

While they seem to always look prepared there are a lot of hardships that go into preparing for the race.

Coming in first or beating your best time, is the goal of many runners who competed Saturday in the U.S.A. Track & Field Cross Country Championships.

But its not just the training that goes into winning a race traveling can also be expensive.

Jeff Conston is from New York, but luckily most of his family did not have to travel with him since some members of his family live is Tallahassee and his daughter goes to FSU, so family expenses were at a minimum.

The Kukura Family was not so lucky. Jeff Kukura's daughter Peyton who is also in the race, attends West Virginia University, so not only did she have a long trip, but so did Jeff and his wife.

"We are coming from Denver, so we flew in Atlanta Georgia and of coarse its Super bowl week, so pretty busy, and then we drove about an hour or hour and  half or 45 minutes and stayed in Perry Georgia. Then drove two and a half hours this morning to come see her race," said Kukura.

Even with travel, expenses, and time every racer WTXL spoke to said it's all worth it.

"This is the one race where I have family to be able to come and see me race which was awesome," said runner Jeff Conston.

Many runners told WTXL, running the race is the easy part.
