TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Downtown Improvement Authority is trying to find a new CEO after Paige Carter-Smith resigned following a federal indictment.

Monday is the deadline to apply for the job.

There are still a few more hours to apply, but so far, at least 18 people have done that already. The board has a selection committee that will come up with a shortlist.

That was supposed to happen Monday. The committee met Monday afternoon to go over those applications, but some didn't realize the deadline hadn't passed yet.

So, they decided to hold off on doing anything until then.

We talked to TDIA Board Chair Chris Dudley after the meeting. He said so far, the applicants reflect the downtown motto of "Live, Work, Play" in one way or another.

"Whether it's food service downtown, retail, whether it's living, whether it's having work experience in the downtown area, I think that was a pretty cool thing to see is these varied interest of folks coming in that really can bring a unique perspective to what we're looking for downtown," said Dudley.

The initial goal was to interview the finalists on Friday, but now, that day will be used to go through the applications and come up with the shortlist.

Dudley told us the plan is to have the new CEO start on March 1.

He said even though the schedule has changed a bit, he still thinks that the board can reach that goal.

In full disclosure, an employee of WTXL, Christine Souders, did submit an application for the position. To avoid any conflicts of interest, Christine will not be involved in reporting on the story and the organization for the time being.
