TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) -- There isn't an official ranking as to what Florida city is the home to the most craft breweries, however Tallahassee continues to increase its number to become one of the top.
There are already several breweries in the city including Proof Brewing Co., Momo's Pizza Brew Pub, Grasslands Brewing, Fermenta Lounge, and Lake Tribe Brewing. More haven't even opened their doors yet, such as Canopy Roads Brewing and Deep Brewing Co..
Stephen Kubiak, social media representative from Visit Florida, says he believes one major reason for such a drastic increase is the fact that customers are able to see for themselves where and how the products are made. Plus, he says the increased amount of breweries helps the local economy as well.
"You've got people that are creating jobs here in our local communities", said Kubiak. "And they're making a product people actually want. I think that's the biggest thing. It gets people really excited. They're able to say 'I'm from Tallahassee. This is my beer. This is our brewery.' and I think that's special for a lot of people to be able to say that. "
The rise in breweries in Tallahassee also means more competition, but the head brewer at Momo's Pizza Brew Pub says that competition is good for the industry.
"As a beer enthusiast, I'm thrilled about it", said John Larsen, Head Brewer at Momo's, "As a brewery in town, I'm not scared by it. I'm happy about it as well. The more people who know about craft beer, the more of a market there is and there is enough people to go around."
