TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - Tallahassee Police have released the name of the man who died after running into a pond while fleeing from officers over the weekend.

The body of Juan Miguel Esteban Carrillo Leyva was recovered from the pond in the middle of Carter Howell Strong Park early Sunday morning, according to the Tallahassee Police Department.

Police say they were called out to the area regarding a burglary in progress. The accused suspect was spotted and police say began chasing him.

Officers unsuccessfully attempted to tase him and said he ran into the pond. They say they tried to call him back to shore but he ignored them.

When the Tallahassee Fire Department was called out with their boat, police say he could not be located. A helicopter and eventually a dive team were brought in to continue the search.

Police say Leyva's body was discovered by the dive team approximately 40 feet from shore, under 8 feet of water.

The cause of death will be released by police pending autopsy results.
