TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A recent study shows a trend of re-segregation of public schools across the Sunshine State.

The report by the Leroy Collins Institute shows Tallahassee as one of the top five cities in the state for the lack in diversity.

Researchers say that white affluent families have turned away from traditional public schools, leaving many schools comprised of one race and one income level.

WTXL spoke to a Leon County school board member who believes *the choice plan* needs to be modified in an attempt to improve the imbalance within the schools.

Maggie Butler, school board district member for District 3, says parental involvement in the school community is a main focus, and Leon County needs more parents and student mentors to participate.

School board members are hoping to see changes on the southside of town.
