TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The number of patients in Florida's medical marijuana registry continues to rise with more than 57,000 people now eligible to receive cannabis in the state.

Nearly 1,300 doctors are approved to prescribe the drug.

According to the department of health, there are about 180 patients being added by physicians to the registry every day.

Wednesday, the house health quality subcommittee received a presentation from Christian Bax, director of the state office of medical marijuana use. He says, since the medicinal cannabis industry is new, there have been a few hiccups during inspections, but most clinics are doing their best to comply with state law.

"We have had issues with MMTC's selling nonconforming products, products that either weren't approved or are products that can be easily used to smoke marijuana. We have issued cease and desists for those products," said Bax.

Officials say medical marijuana ID cards should start being able to be mass printed by mid-February and the timing from application to receipt of an ID card should not be more than one week.
