TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The City of Tallahassee is opening two sandbag locations to help residents prepare for potential rainfall of more than an inch this weekend.

COT said this is a proactive measure due in part to the heavy rainfall the area has already experienced, with some locations experiencing more than eight inches of rainfall, causing an oversaturation of the ground throughout the community.

Starting at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, bags and sand will be available at James Messer Park South at 2830 Jackson Bluff Road and at Winthrop Park, located at 1601 Mitchell Avenue.

Residents will need to bring their own shovels and be prepared to fill bags themselves. There is a 25 bag limit per household and city crews will monitor the sites and provide additional sand and bags as needed.

The site will be open until the inclement weather has passed and it is determined there is no longer a need.

To help mitigate potential flooding, crews will continue to check known drainage trouble spots for blockages and clear obstructions.

Within the Tallahassee city limits, residents may report flooded streets by calling 891-4968.

Leon County is also opening up sandbag locations. Click here for more info.
