VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - Residents in Valdosta will see an increase in their property taxes this year.

Thursday, the City of Valdosta voted to increase the millage rate to 7.95 mils. City officials said the new rate will fund the general budget that the mayor and council agreed on in June.

As a result of the millage raise, citizens may experience a slight increase in taxes. For example, in a home with a fair market value of $100,000, the taxpayer would pay about $62 more which is about $5 a month.

Since 1992, the millage rate has been decreased 11 times and only increased once.
