TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- November is Hire A Vet Month, and state organizations are again teaming up to help find jobs for troops once they return home.

It's thanks to Paychecks for Patriots. This special hiring fair, now in its third year, is dedicated to local veterans, with career expos happening all over the state.

Last year, more than 50 percent of the veterans who took part statewide were hired from connections they made at the event.

Florida has the third largest veteran population in the country, with more than 1.5 million former service members living in the Sunshine State.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the Florida National Guard, and the Florida Department of Veteran Affairs are joining forces with CareerSource Florida regions to match veterans with employers.

The Tallahassee Paychecks for Patriots is Thursday, November 19 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the National Guard Armory. More than 35 organizations looking to hire now will be on hand.

It's veterans-only from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., and then opens to the general public.

There's also one scheduled in Perry, on Wednesday, November 11 at 1:30 p.m. at Veterans' Memorial Park.
