PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Spring break will have a different look in Panama City Beach.

City officials on Thursday approved a new set of rules designed to tone down spring break. Bars will close at 2 a.m. during March and those drinking on the beach will be required to have government-issued picture identification cards.

The News Herald of Panama City (http://bit.ly/1xgCjCe ) reports the council delayed a decision on an ordinance that would limit the number of events on the beach during spring break. It would also require organizers of events with 500 or more people to get city permits and provide fencing, security, emergency personnel and traffic control.

A workshop is scheduled for Nov. 12.

Some bar owners urged the council not to adopt the rules saying their establishments don't cater to spring breakers.
