The Americus Police Department released this report Wednesday morning at 9:15-

On September 25, 2018 at approximately 11:03 PM, officers from the Americus Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block of Mary Street to a report of shots fired. The responding officers located an injured man in this area, who was transported to the hospital with head injuries.

Investigation into the incident indicates that two black male subjects wearing masks came to the front door of the Dollar General at 805 Adderton Street. The store had just closed and the front door was locked, but the store manager, a clerk, and one customer were in the store at the front counter.

At least one of the suspects was armed with a shotgun and began to hit the glass door with the weapon.

The manager ran from the front counter toward the back of the store where he escaped through the back door. The clerk and customer, also ran to the back of the store, but hid inside. One of the suspects fired a shot at the front door, shattering the glass. Both suspects ran around the store and gave chase to the fleeing store manager. At least two shots were fired from the shotgun outside of the store, but no pellets appear to have hit the fleeing victim.

Both suspects fled the scene. The suspects caught up with the victim in the 800 block of Mary Street where a physical altercation occurred, resulting in the store manager’s injuries.

The suspects are described as two black males wearing masks and dark clothing. One of the suspects may have had a white T-shirt on under his outer clothing. Anyone with information is asked to call the Americus Police Department at 229-924-3677.
