THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) - During a Thomas County Commission meeting NAACP President of Thomas County Lucinda Brown called for the resignation of sheriff Carlton Powell.

If he does not resign, Brown said Tuesday the group would look into filling a petition for recall.

This is in response to an investigation after Thomas County Deputy Josh Smith shot and killed 37-year old Herbert Gilbert.

Small groups of protesters were still marching through the downtown Thomasville streets Tuesday.

Mayor Greg Hobbs has lived in Thomasville all his life and says this is a new hardship the city hasn't faced before.

Brown says there is a Sheriff's Office policy for use of force and chase procedures, and she said she believes those policies were not followed.
