JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A broken cable sent a north Florida port worker plummeting to his death.

Fire Chief Harvey Silcox said 58-year-old Timothy Dubberly was doing electrical work on the crane Friday at the Port of Fernandina when it appears a cable snapped, causing the operations cab he was in to fall about 100 feet.

The Florida Times-Union reports he was dead when rescuers got to him.

The accident occurred at the Kinder Morgan Nassau Terminal.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
