Man sentenced in Governor's Square Apartment shooting

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Jacksonville man convicted of coming to Tallahassee to try to kill his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Amos Moorer, 42, was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Moorer was found guilty of two counts of attempted second degree murder on January 30, 2018.

Documents say he was the gunman in the shooting at at Governor's Square Apartments on August 11, 2016. 

The victim was out walking her dog when Moorer approached her and attempted to talk to her. Officers say the woman quickly returned to apartment and told her boyfriend about Moorer.

When both of them went outside to look for him, Moorer exited his car, fired at them around 5 times and fled the area, according to police.

Both the woman and her boyfriend were hit in the leg and had to undergo surgery.

After a two day trial, Amos Moorer has been found guilty of two counts of attempted second degree murder.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Police said a suspect involved in a Tallahassee apartment shooting was attempting to kill his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend. 

The Tallahassee Police Department has identified 41-year-old Amos Moorer in connection with the shooting at Governor's Square Apartments. Moorer was arrested in Jacksonville on August 12th. According to the warrant, he was attempting to kill the victims with a handgun. 

Police said the woman claimed her and Moorer had previously dated. She told police that she believed he came from his Jacksonville home to hurt her and her current boyfriend out of jealousy. 

The woman was walking her dog on August 11th when Moorer approached her and attempted to talk to her. Officers say the woman quickly returned to apartment and told her boyfriend about Moorer.

When both of them went outside to look for him, Moorer exited his car, fired at them around 5 times, and fled the area according to police.

Officers said both the woman and her boyfriend were struck in the leg and are undergoing surgery.

This investigation is on-going, forensic evidence is still being gathered, and Moorer's location is unknown.
