BAINBRIDGE, GA (WTXL) - Authorities are calling a man in Bainbridge a hero after he saw smoke coming from a home and broke in, saving three people who were asleep inside the burning building.

Tchaikovsky Williams was walking by a home on the 400 Block of 4th Street around 7:30 a.m. when he noticed smoke coming from the back of the house, according to Bainbridge Public Safety.

Officers say Williams knew the people living in the home and tried to break through the front door to save them.

Smoke prevented him from getting in further so Williams is said to have ran to the back of the home and broke through a window when he saw the flames, says BPS.

Alisia Hopkins, Deborah Harper, and Bernard Akins were asleep inside the home and Williams was able to wake them and help get them out of the home safely.

Authorities say Williams cut his hand when he broke through the window.
