ATLANTA, GA. (AP) - Prosecutors say a man has been sentenced to life in prison in the 2014 shooting death of a restaurant employee in suburban Atlanta.

Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard said Friday that Yusuf Alkarim was found guilty in the murder of Riyadh Nuriddin on July 2, 2014. Alkarim was an employee of the restaurant in East Point and Nuriddin, the owner's son, was the manager.

Howard says Alkarim, Nuriddin and Cortez Barnett were working after business hours cleaning the kitchen and performing normal closing operations. Barnett left the restaurant to walk across the street to the gas station.

When Barnett returned, he heard gunshots and Barnett emerged then ordered him back inside at gunpoint. Barnett saw Nuriddin lying on the floor in the restaurant before he ultimately escaped and called 911.

Alkarim was arrested July 14.
