Man Found Dead in Elevator Accident at TMH Identified

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- The 60-year-old contractor who died while working on an elevator at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital has been identified.

The Tallahassee Fire Department said that Robert Myers, 60, was found dead after firefighters were able to get into the elevator shaft. 

Reporter Sierra Ferguson was on scene and spoke with Captain Mike Bellamy with TFD.

TFD said that the Consolidated Dispatch Agency received an elevator rescue call on Friday around 7:30 a.m. from the TMH Professional Office Building located at 1401 Centerville Road.

When TFD units arrived on scene, they found an elevator car stopped in between the first and second floor. At that time, they were able to safely evacuate three occupants inside the elevator.

Building officials told firefighters that a contractor who was previously working on the elevator was missing.

When they were able to secure the elevator and get inside the elevator shaft, the located the deceased victim.
