BROOKS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - A man is dead after a two-vehicle accident in Brooks County on the Fourth of July.

Johnathan Garcia, 27, of Moultrie, Ga. was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Georgia State Patrol, at about 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, they responded to a two-vehicle accident on GA 122, about a mile east of Pleasant Hill Church Road.

GSP states Garcia was traveling west on GA 122 and a Peterbilt tractor-trailer was traveling east.

GSP says Garcia began to merge into the eastbound lane and hit the tractor-trailer in the front bumper, causing him to come to an uncontrolled stop on the shoulder of the road.

Garcia was pronounced dead at the scene and extricated from the car.

The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained an injury to his arm.

GSP states both drivers were wearing their seatbelts and investigators are unsure if drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident.

GSP says investigation is pending toxicology results.
