LOWNDES COUNTY, Ga. --Lowndes County Schools released the following statement:

"After consulting with the Emergency Management Agency and the Lowndes County Roads Department and considering the difficulty in delivering students safely this afternoon we have determined that we have more than 30 roads currently under water.  The latest weather advisory predicts an additional 3 inches of rain tonight accompanied by high winds, creating the potential for fallen trees.

In the interest of providing safe transportation for our students, Lowndes County Schools will be closed on Tuesday, February 26.  No staff is expected to report to work.  We will evaluate road conditions throughout the day on Tuesday to make a determination as to the re-opening of schools on Wednesday morning and will post and distribute additional notifications."
