TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Friends and family are remembering a 19-year-old Tallahassee man who died after being swept away in the Mississippi River last week.

The family asked for Friday's gathering for Pace Taylor to be private.

Taylor graduated from Chiles High School in Tallahassee and had finished his freshman year at Valdosta State.

Taylor was at a concert on June 29 at the Mud Island Amphitheater.

According to our sister station WMC in Memphis, first responders headed to the boat launch.

His mother said he slipped while walking along the bank of the river and fell in.

The funeral program says Taylor "entered into rest" the next day.

Friday, his family said they're expecting a "very large gathering of friends" to celebrate his life.

Taylor's mother sent us this statement Friday before the funeral:

"We are so blessed by the outpouring of support. The entire Sigma Nu chapter from VSU showed up today with a donation for Pace's Reef. At this time, we are just overwhelmed by the number of people who want to celebrate with us."

The family is asking people to donate to the Coastal Conservation Association Florida in Pace's honor.

They're working on a habitat restoration project and a memorial plaque with his name.
