ST. MARKS, Fla. (WTXL) - Saturday marked the 15th annual St. Marks Stone Crab Festival. Organizers said the event was all about celebrating the start of stone crab season.
Allen Lynn, co-owner of Lynn brothers Seafood in St Marks said the event was a great day for the local economy and the community. Lynn said a combination of past hurricanes, tropical storms and the BP oil spill really hurt local businesses.
More than 15, 000 people turned out for the event. Lynn said it's a good sign the seafood industry is in the process of making a come back.
”The people in the seafood industry are very strong and we feel like this will turn it around for us and it's just good for business,” said Lynn.
The festival featured barbequed and fried fish, live bands, a kids center and of course, stone crab.
