TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- From all over the world, horses and their riders have galloped to Tallahassee for the Red Hills Horse Trials, which takes place through Sunday.

Local riders, Parker Miller and Briggs Surratt are competing with the goal of qualifying for the Junior Olympic Team.

On Friday, 13-year old, Parker Miller will compete with riders from all over the world. Miller’s Trainer, Rick Wallace describes her to be a serious competitor like his trainee, 18-year old, Briggs Surratt.

"This is Jos Baco. He is a 13 year old Argentinean thoroughbred," Miller said, who can be found most days of the week at Cherry Hills Farm under the direction of her trainer.

Surratt, a second year Trials veteran, will be racing with “Hat Trick”, as well as another one of his horses.

"I'm hoping to win. To get a very strong score and I'm aiming for the top ten," Surratt said.

Aside from becoming stronger competitors, both Miller and Stuart have learned life lessons through horses. Stuart even secured his own sponsorship with Metro Barber, a men’s luxury barber shop located in Tallahassee, FL.

Kevin Hamilton, Co Owner of Metro Barber said, "I wanted to be supportive of the local community and local events … Briggs has been a client of Metro Barber and a client of mine since he was a young teen."

Both Maclay High School students hope to one day move up through the ranks like Elisa Wallace, Rick’s daughter.
