TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--Governor Rick Scott announces the Florida Department of Economic Recovery will be receiving a $6 million federal grant to restore oyster fisheries in the Apalachicola Bay.
This is nearly a year after a fishery resource disaster was declared in the area. Nearly $4.5 of the $6 million is allocated for restoration of the oyster habitat. The rest of the money will go to monitoring the oyster population, vocational and educational training for workers, and facilities upgrades.
