TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Local leaders gathered Wednesday to announce the kick-off of the 2018 Tallahassee Food Challenge.
According to organizers, the annual information and advertising campaign is a grass roots effort to increase awareness during a critical time of year when food assistance charities usually experience a high demand but have a low supply due to the end of the school year.
They say the goal of the campaign is to increase donation efforts to Second Harvest.
"We have great initiatives that increase the quality of life in our community and Leon County commissioners has always been on the fore front and its my honor to represent my colleagues to be out here and to support the food challenge," said John Dailey, Leon County Commissioner.
The effort is funded entirely by local business sponsors in cooperation with media allies.
This year's campaign slogan is: "Take The Challenge, Fill A Bowl, Feed The Hungry."
