SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Authorities have identified the Suwannee High senior who drowned in the Suwannee River Thursday evening.

Following notification of family members, the senior has now been identified as 19-year-old Trevon 'Trey' Hines. According to a roster, Hines played on the school's football team as a running back and full back.

Chief Summers with Suwannee County EMS confirmed that their personnel responded to a call to Telford Springs just after 7 p.m. Thursday.

Friends and family members were gathered at the popular recreation site. They say Hines slipped near the river bank and fell into the river.

Peers attempted to rescue the teen before calling authorities. When Suwannee County EMS arrived on scene, they initiated a body recovery.

Hines was due to graduate Saturday from Suwannee High School. Funeral arrangements are forthcoming.
