LEON Co., FL (WTXL) - Two Leon County Deputies are credited with rescuing a woman from a burning car Friday morning.

According to the Leon County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Austin Whitley and Deputy David Philcox pulled an unnamed woman from a burning vehicle around 2:00 a.m. in the 3300 block of Capital Circle.

Officials say Whitley saw the car, which had flipped several times, on fire on the side of the road.

The driver was trapped inside and flames were coming through the dash, according to the department.

Philcox arrived on scene and pulled the woman out after Whitley cut her seat belt.

Sheriff Mike Wood released a statement saying he was proud of the two deputies.

"Their actions today, demonstrate the courage and commitment our law enforcement professionals have to this community," said Wood.
