ELBERTON, Ga. (AP) - Jury selection has resumed in the case of a man accused in the death of a police officer in Athens.

The Athens Banner Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1ALHtgd ) more than 300 potential jurors are expected to be questioned Tuesday by prosecutors and 37-year-old Jamie Hood, who is acting as his own attorney after a judge granted his request to fire court-appointed representation.

Hood is accused in the death of Athens-Clarke County Police Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian III. Authorities say he also wounded a second officer in 2011.

Hood fled and agreed to surrender if news outlets covered his arrest live. He's been charged with murder and attempted murder.

Jury selection in the case was moved to Elbert County because of pretrial publicity, but the trial will be heard in Athens-Clarke County.
