JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A man suffered minor injuries after an accident involving two semi-trucks in Jefferson County.

Loyd Hicks, 44, of Gulfport, Mississippi is being charged with careless driving by Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP responded to a two-vehicle accident at about 6:25 a.m. Sunday on I-10.

According to FHP, Hicks was traveling eastbound on I-10 in the left lane and the other semi-truck was traveling in the right lane.

FHP states Hicks said he was passing another car not involved in the crash and was looking in the mirror to see if he cleared that vehicle as he began to merge into the right lane.

FHP says Hicks did not realize how close he was to the other semi-truck and the difference in speed. Hicks tried to avoid a collision, but ended up hitting the back of the truck.

Hicks' semi-truck traveled across the centerline and onto the grass median before overturning on its side.

FHP says Hicks suffered minor injuries and the driver of the other semi-tuck was not injured in the accident.

Both were wearing seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor in the incident.

Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, EMS and Fire assisted FHP on scene.
