Jackson County Deputies Make Arrest in Homicide Investigation

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has made an arrest in an ongoing homicide investigation.

They announced that they have Daimeyon O'Neal, 22, has been arrested for murder of Kaycha Smith. Smith was pregnant at the time. 

The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said that her body was found on April 27 in the 5000 block of Old U.S. Road, behind an abandoned packing house. They said that she was suffering from multiple wounds to the upper body.

They said that O'Neal was a person of interest early on in the investigation, due to their ongoing relationship and reports that they had some recent domestic issues. On Tuesday night, investigators say that they received some information that led to O'Neal's arrest in Bay County.

After he was arrested, deputies recovered a handgun in Panama City they believe was involved in the murder.

However JSCO, said that the investigation is ongoing and they are continuing to interview witnesses to piece together a narrative. Deputies say that there may be additional arrests made.

O'Neal is currently being held in Bay County for a first appearance on Friday, after which he will be extradited to Jackson County. Additional charges may also be pending for O'Neal.
