PANACEA, Fla. (WTXL)- A sea turtle being rehabilitated at the Gulf Specimen Marine Lab is getting named after a very special kid.

The marine lab says 5-year-old Ryvir decided to skip gifts for her recent birthday and instead collected donations for their aquarium, totaling $150.

Ryvir told GSML she chose the aquarium because it's her favorite place.

To thank her for the donation, the marine lab is naming a female Kemp's Ridley sea turtle after Ryvir.

The lab's sea turtle research and conservation program is the third oldest in the US.
