PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WTXL) — Five tons of dog, cat, and horse food are being shipped to Panama City Saturday morning to feed hundreds of animals who otherwise wouldn't eat because of Hurricane Michael.
The food is going to families who are fostering homeless animals and those struggling to keep their pets under the weight of mounting expenses.
If a picture is worth a thousand words, these say it all, the destruction of Hurricane Michael, thousands displaced and homeless and not just people, but also their pets.
"Hurricane Michael was a windstorm and it blew away people's barns and that meant their food supplies for the winter are gone too and it also blew away their houses so that means they have a lot of big problems with keeping animals," said Richard McNelis, Vice President of Rainbow's Edge Inc.
That's why the Rainbows Edge Equine Transition Center, the St. Petersburg Bruno Foundation and the WWEC - Emergency Evacuation and Disaster Relief are teaming up to deliver dog, cat, and horse food to all counties affected by Hurricane Michael.
Little Henry is just one of the animals rescued from a storm affected area. His family didn't want to give him away but their home was partially destroyed and what was left started growing black mold.
"Henry is here to represent Hurricane Michael and all the dogs over there and they need your help because they need a lot of food over there right now," said Roxanne Spear, President Rainbows Edge.
The truck loaded with pet food is leaving Tallahassee Saturday at 10:00 a.m. If you would like to add a last minute donation to that delivery or find out how to volunteer call 850-878-8441.
