JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Troopers say that a 15-year-old has been killed in Jefferson County and another teen is in critical condition after their car hit a tree and caught on fire.

The Florida Highway Patrol said that the 17-year-old teen was driving a Ford Explorer south on U.S. Highway 221 around 2:30 a.m. when he drove off the road while following a right curve.

This made the car rotate clockwise, causing the car to crash into some nearby trees.

After hitting trees, the car rotated clockwise again and overturned, coming to a rest on the passenger's side.

Troopers say that the car caught on fire and burned until firefighters were able to extinguish it.

They said that a passenger, 15, was killed in the crash. The 17-year-old is in critical condition and has been transported to a local hospital.
